Southeast Wisconsin IIBA Chapter

SE Wisconsin International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) Chapter

What is the IIBA?

The IIBA is an international not-for-profit professional association for Business Analysis professionals. A business analyst works as a liaison among stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate and validate requirements for changes to business processes, policies and information systems. The business analyst understands business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommends solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.

The IIBA vision is to be the leading world-wide professional association that develops and maintains standards for the practice of business analysis and for the certification of practitioners. IIBA will achieve that goal by:

  • Creating and developing awareness and recognition of the value and contribution of the Business Analyst
  • Defining the Body of Knowledge
  • Providing a forum for knowledge sharing and contribution to the Body of Knowledge
  • Identifying the required skills and competencies of a qualified Business Analyst
  • Defining training and professional development standards
  • Publicly recognizing and certifying qualified Business Analysts

Leveraging a Business Analysis Maturity Model presented by Dave Heidt, Enterprise Agility and VP of Marketing and Relationships, Chicagoland IIBA Chapter.

Join us to hear Dave Heidt share his views on the Business Analyst Maturity Model (BAMM).  Today's conventional approach to requirements analysis and engineering is limited in its value as organizations attempt to address demands for increased innovation, rapid product and service rollout, outsourcing and new technology enablers such as BPMS, business rules engines and SOA. Additionally, the agile development movement and IT-centric methods for analyzing and designing software solutions don't accurately represent how business processes, rules, events, knowledge and human to system interaction fit together. This presentation introduces a new way of thinking about the role of the business analyst. It provides organizations with a path to transition their business analysts from their "go-between" role for business and IT to a valued advocate for the business that has an instrumental role in designing key aspects of a business solution.

Mr. Heidt's focus is on tailoring business analysis frameworks where integrated business processes, rules and automation specifications are keys to increasing business agility and reducing operational costs. He is instrumental in the roll-out of the Business Change Ecosystem which includes the Business Analysis and Architecture Maturity Models ( www.theBAMM.org) along with the Business Engineering Framework which guides mentoring and leadership activities for clients in the areas of business analysis, rules-driven business process management and business process transformation.

Frequently presenting and writing on the topics of business analysis, architecture, process and rules, he provides mentoring and leadership services for Fortune 1000 clients. He is an advisory board member at Northwestern University for their Business Analyst certificate program, an IIBA Endorsed Educational Provider and a member of the OMG's Business Architecture Working Group.

  • Mike Ruhland, President
  • Bryan Buford, VP of Professional Development and Certification
  • Kal Vidyaraman, Treasurer
  • Returning Board members for 2010 include:
Dodie Kovac, VP Member and Sponsor Relations
Jeff Goldring, VP Marketing and Communication
    Ryan Burwell, Secretary
Dave DeBruine will continue as part of the Board in the position of Past President.

The Election Committee would like to extend an apology to Janaka Herath.  A transfer error occurred while tallying ballots led that led the Election Committee to  incorrectly identify Janaka as the Chapter's new Treasurer.  However, during a final audit before submitting election results to the IIBA, the error was discovered.   To comply with Chapter bylaws it was necessary for the position to be rightfully awarded to Kal Vidyaraman.  The Board and the Election Committee wish to extend our thanks to Janaka for his patience and understanding.  We look forward to Janaka's future contributions to the Chapter.
